Welcome to the web home of The William & Mary Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble, conducted by William & Mary Director of Bands Dr. Paul Bhasin, brings together 50 talented wind, brass and percussion players to perform the finest wind music from a repertoire that spans the 16th through the 21st centuries. Membership in the Wind Ensemble is open to all students (music majors & non-music majors) by audition at the beginning of the school year.
Founded in 1929, the Wind Ensemble celebrates its 85th Anniversary Season in 2014. The ensemble has performed throughout North America and is currently recording its first-ever CD (of commissioned works by W&M composer Brian Hulse) with Centaur Records. In addition, the Wind Ensemble is featured prominently in the original score to 923 Films’ motion picture Hogtown. The film was recently officially selected by the 2014 Black Harvest Film Festival and will receive its premiere at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, Illinois.
In May 2015, the Wind Ensemble will tour China with concerts in Beijing and Shanghai as well as special service learning projects which will involve WM students teaching and performing with younger Chinese music students. To celebrate this special tour, the Wind Ensemble will perform at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in March, 2015.
Under the direction of Director of Bands Dr. Paul Bhasin, the Wind Ensemble’s collaborations include performances with Virginia and Richmond Symphony soloists and in late 2013, a joint concert with the US Air Force Heritage of America Band. The Wind Ensemble performs annually at the W&M Global Film Festival and at historic local venues including the Kimball Theatre, Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall, and the 315 year-old Wren Great Hall. The group has also been honored to perform at the inauguration of college president Gene Nichol and the investiture of Chancellor Sandra Day O’Connor.
From this webpage, you can learn more about the ensemble, gather audition information, meet the Director and administrative leadership, listen to and watch some of our most recent performances, or support the ensemble.

The Wind Ensemble Experience:
The Wind Ensemble is a curricular class, designated MUSC E03 in the Banner system. It is worth one academic credit and can also fulfill the College’s GER 6 requirement.
Intrinsically speaking, the Wind Ensemble also provides a way to grow your musical talent throughout your William & Mary experience. Apart from musical activities, the Wind Ensemble maintains its own intramural sports teams, holds regular Music Department social events, and more.
The William & Mary Wind Ensemble is the premiere wind performance experience at the College of William & Mary. If you are seeking a great opportunity to enjoy preparing and performing first-rate repertoire and work with great musicians, this ensemble is for you.
