Participation in the Wind Ensemble requires an audition at the start of either the Fall or Spring semesters. All William & Mary students are eligible to audition at the start of the Fall Semester, and once accepted, will be able to register for their respective ensemble(s) on Banner. Sign-ups for audition times will be available one week prior to the start of the Fall semester on the bulletin board outside of the rehearsal hall, Ewell 207.
The Wind Ensemble has a few openings for the spring semester, particularly in the area of low brass. If you are interested in scheduling an audition, please email Dr. Marcus at firstname.lastname@example.org.
2015-16 Audition dates are August 25th-28th. Additional audition times with Dr. Marcus may be available upon request.
At your audition, come prepared to perform:
1. a short, lyrical piece of your choice
2. excerpts for your instrument posted below (prepare the sections bracketed in red)
3. sight reading
Chamber Winds Auditions
Students auditioning for the Wind Ensemble who wish to participate in a rich chamber music experience are invited to join the Chamber Winds. This performing ensemble is open to select Wind Ensemble musicians and rehearses on select Fridays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm. The Chamber Winds’ repertoire focuses on ensemble music written for fewer than 15 players — including the great chamber works of Strauss, Dvořák, Stravinsky, Mozart, and others.
At the end of the audition period, students will be notified of audition results by email.
The 2015-2016 Audition materials have been posted below! If two excerpts are listed for your instrument, please prepare both.
(percussion: for your audition, choose any and all instruments for which you would like to be considered)
