The William & Mary Wind Ensemble’s final concert of the season, “In Times of Tragedy/In Times of Triumph,” runs the emotional gamut.  On the program is the Virginia premiere of James Stephenson’s there are no words, dedicated to the victims of the mass shooting that took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC on June 17, 2015.  Other selections include Kinetic dance, for two scrap metal birds by David Clay Mettens, a 2016 recipient of the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and Luna in Cerulean by Kevin Kay, a member of the W&M Wind Ensemble.  To celebrate the 100th anniversary of composer Alberto Ginastera’s birth, the program will conclude with the rousing “Danza Final” from the ballet, Estancia.

The W&M Wind Ensemble will provide live accompaniment for cinema montages created by students in the Film & Media Studies Department as part of the W&M Global Film Festival.  “Film & Community” is the theme for the 2016 festival.  Musical selections include The Red Pony: Film Suite for Band by Aaron Copland, Trittico by Vaclav Nelhybel, and From the Delta by William Grant Still.
